Hosier (not to be mistaken with the similarly called musician and songwriter Hozier) was born Chris Hosier in Fort Wayne, Indiana on December 1, 1988. He is a country rapper who recounts small-town life with a big-city swagger and a musical assault that combines hip-hop and rock & roll. Hosier had a tough upbringing, and he learnt to depend on himself at an early age, according to him. Chris grew up in Anderson, Indiana, some 80 miles south of Fort Wayne, where he was inspired by his cousin and closest friend, who were both hip-hop enthusiasts and artists in the city’s underground rap scene. Chris started composing raps and producing songs when he was 18 years old, wanting to create a name for himself. Young Chris released his debut songs, “Crooked City Champion” and “Make the Hood Jump,” in 2011, and he quickly established himself as one of the Midwest’s top “hick hop” musicians. Young Chris changed his stage name to Hosier in 2012, and over the next several years, he grew his fan base by performing live. By 2016, Hosier’s hard work was paying off, with songs like “Long Bumpy Road,” “Redneck Rave Anthem,” “Country Side Living,” and “Jamming Sweet Home Alabama” gaining traction on the internet. Paving My Way, Hosier’s debut full-length album, was released in April 2017 on his own Redneckin label.
