Darryl Worley is an American country music singer. He has released five studio albums, including his most recent album The Outlaw which was released in November 2017.

Darryl Worley, a country singer and songwriter with a penchant for vintage sounds and traditional values, was a hitmaker in the 2000s before taking a break and returning to the stage in the late 2010s. Worley’s music, which was influenced by George Jones and Merle Haggard, added a contemporary gloss to songs rooted in the traditionalist trend that swept through Nashville in the 1990s. His songs dealt with everyday issues like love, family, and heartbreak, and he had a big success with the patriotic hymn “Have You Forgotten” in 2003. Worley put his career on hold towards the end of the 2000s, but he returned in 2019 with a new album that blended his signature sound with soulful rhythms.

Darryl Worley was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 31, 1964. He grew up in Pyburn, Tennessee, where his father was a Methodist preacher, his mother sang in the church choir, and his grandpa was a country and bluegrass banjo player. Worley loved music but was planned on attending college on a basketball scholarship until a back injury ruined his athletic career. Worley studied biology and chemistry at the University of North Alabama while also performing at off-campus honky tonks in his free time. Worley juggled jobs in chemistry and teaching after graduation, as well as sporadic gigs in his spare time, but on his father’s advice, he chose to pursue a career in music. He got a position as a contract composer with Fame Publishing in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and did so well that he moved up to a deal with EMI Publishing in Nashville in 1994. Worley started to make a reputation for himself in Music City thanks to his excellent songwriting and increasing ability as a singer, and in 1999 he signed a deal with DreamWorks Records.

Hard Rain Don't Last Hard Rain Don’t Last, his first album, was published in 2000, and it produced three Top 20 Country singles: “When You Need My Love,” “A Good Day to Run,” and “Second Wind.” Worley also witnessed one of his idols, George Jones, record one of his songs, “Sinners and Saints,” in the same year. Worley’s second album, I Miss My Friend, was released in 2002, and the title single reached number one on the Country Singles list, while the album also topped the Country Albums chart. Worley was inspired to create “Have You Forgotten,” a song in favor of American engagement in the Middle East, after participating in a USO tour to entertain American soldiers in Kuwait and Afghanistan in late 2002. The song was released in March 2003 and lasted seven weeks at the top of the Country Singles chart, as well as reaching number 22 on the pop chart. In April 2003, Worley released Have You Forgotten, which included the title track, three additional new recordings, plus 12 songs from his previous two albums.

Darryl Worley Worley followed up the success of “Have You Forgotten” with Darryl Worley, a 2004 album that produced three Top Ten country songs, including “Awful, Beautiful Life,” his third number one single. Worley became a free agent when DreamWorks Records went out of business in mid-2005. Worley joined the roster of 903 Music, which was established by country singer Neal McCoy, and released Here and Now in November 2006. The song “Nothin’ But a Love Thang” was a success, reaching number 35 on the Country Singles list, but 903 Music went bankrupt in mid-2007, leaving Worley adrift once again. Worley’s fifth original album, 2009’s Sounds Like Life, was released on Stroudavarious Records, which was established by James Stroud, who had produced most of Worley’s work for DreamWorks. Worley’s next album, God & Country, went unreleased as Stroudavarious fell out of business, with the majority of the musicians transferring to R&J Records. Tenacity Records published a new Worley single, “He’s Still Got It,” in 2012, which charted in the Country Top 40, but the album he recorded for the label, One Time Around, was never released.

Second Wind: Latest and Greatest Worley and his wife had their first child, a girl called Savannah, in 2008, and while he battled with his record label problems, he grew to feel that his family, not his business, should be his first focus. Worley reduced his traveling and restricted his recording to a few stray songs after One Time Around was canceled. Worley decided to reintroduce himself to his fans in 2018, and he and his band started work on a new album, which included half fresh material with a slight influence of Worley’s love of vintage soul, and half re-recorded versions of some of his most famous songs. Second Wind: Latest and Greatest, the outcome, was published in April 2019 by BFD Records.
