Five Finger Death Punch is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1999 by guitarist Zoltan Bathory and bassist Ivan Moody. They are known for their songs Bad Company, Jekyll & Hyde, Wrong Side of Heaven, and the single Wash It All Away.
Five Finger Death Punch has been a fixture of the Billboard charts since their inception in 2005, making them one of the most successful groove metal acts of the decade. The group’s gigantic riffs and wickedly twisted lyrics offer a mix of classic thrash and scorching metal as strong as their moniker, taking their name from the legendary martial arts film Five Fingers of Death. They’ve won a spate of accolades since their 2007 debut, thanks to gold- and platinum-selling albums including American Capitalist in 2011, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell in 2013, and And Justice for None in 2018.
Former U.P.O. guitarist Zoltan Bathory, former W.A.S.P. guitarist Darrell Roberts, singer Ivan Moody (Motograter/Ghost Machine), bassist Matt Snell (Anubis Rising), and former W.A.S.P. drummer Jeremy Spencer created the Los Angeles-based band. Way of the Fist, the underground supergroup’s tumultuous yet groove-heavy debut, was released in 2007, followed by War Is the Answer in 2009. Matt Snell left the band in 2008, just as they were about to enter the studio to begin work on a new album, and they hired Chris Kael to take his place in 2011. American Capitalist, their third studio album, was released later that year.
Five Finger Death Punch ultimately went to the studio after a cycle of touring, where they soon discovered they had much too much new material for a single album. The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Vols. 1 and 2, were published in the summer and autumn of 2013, respectively. They announced in the winter of that year that they had started production on their sixth album. The band went to the studio after a long tour to film the video single “Wrong Side of Heaven.” It was a strong statement about the condition of returning combat veterans suffering from PTSD, depression, and other psychiatric issues, who were largely neglected by both government and social care agencies when it was released in August 2014.
Five Finger Death Punch started work on their next album after numerous tours and a short hiatus. It was released in September 2015 under the title Got Your Six. Decade of Destruction was the band’s first career retrospective, released in 2017, and included the new songs “Trouble” and “Gone Away,” which both appeared on the group’s 2018 studio album And Justice for None. F8, the band’s eighth full-length album and the first with new drummer Charlie Engen, was released two years later. A Decade of Destruction, Vol. 2 was released later that year, including 12 of FFDP’s greatest songs as well as five brand-new studio tracks.
